Tavoite
    Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
A. Describe the characteristics of services.
B. Discuss the impact of technology investments on service productivity.
C. Understand the role of technology in service improvement, innovation, and competitiveness.
D. Identify digital solutions and Internet services used by businesses and their customers and explain how they are deployed to increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
E. Discuss how future trends in digital technologies and robotics are reshaping the way businesses are performing tasks and services.
F. Explain the steps in evaluating and selecting digital technologies.
G. Assess the applicability and viability of digital solutions for operations in their field of study.
Sisältö
    This course discusses the impact of digital technologies on services and their management. It focuses on the role of digital technologies in service improvement, innovation, and competitiveness. Existing and emerging digital technologies influencing and reshaping service business models are addressed throughout the course.
Toteutus
    There are two quizzes and two assignments in the course. Quiz 1, worth 25 points and covering learning outcomes A, B, and C, will be administered on June 10th and test the students’ knowledge of assigned readings and information presented in comprehensive PowerPoints. Quiz 2, worth 25 points and covering learning outcomes E and F, will be administered on June 17th and test the students’ knowledge of assigned readings and information presented in comprehensive PowerPoints.
Study teams are formed during the first week. They will submit a written group case report, worth 25 points and covering learning outcome D, during the third week. Students will begin by selecting ideas, models, and theories that will aid in their understanding of the case or situation (conceptual framework). This will also help them identify digital solutions for effectively dealing with the situation’s underlying difficulties and impact on the service system.
The term project, worth 25 points and covering learning outcomes F, will require students to investigate the applicability and viability of three emerging digital technologies for an operation that is in their field of study: hospitality/tourism, international business, or sports management. Term project information will be conveyed via a multimedia PowerPoint slide show.
Teaching methods include lecture, interactive discussions, PowerPoint presentations, short videos, pretests, case studies, reading assignments, and a term project.
